Esme

Esme went home today.
She was so happy and seemed to get along great with the family. We are all so happy for her that she has found her forever home.
Esme was, well..she still is, an amazing cat that I will really miss! It was so cool how you could just open up her cage and she would automatically start purring. I will definetely miss that, but there are plenty of sweet cats to go around!

Congratulations Esme!

Janet and Soda

Janet, the last of the Three's Company kittens, was adopted today! They were all such sweet kittens and I'm glad to see them go home.

Then, our very own Nat took Soda home. As most of us may know, Soda is a bit feral; so, Nat took Soda home with her to live in her backyard as a garden cat. Soda is safe for now in Nat's outdoor cattery. Once she is adjusted, Soda will be let be more freely in her yard!

We still have a ton of cats up for adoption, come on down to meet everyone!

Critter Camp 2009

Critter Camp is going strong, and the kids are having a ton of fun! Posted above is a picture of Brittany H's Vietnamese Pig, Bucca.

"Critter Camp is a great day camp for kids. They spend one week learing about what it takes to be a responsible pet owner. During this week Wendy takes the Campers to various animal agencies in the area and [one day] they even got to meet a pet pig!"

VHS Update

I got this email from Nat today;

"Today- Scnoodle Murphy adopted, also kittens Loisse and Chrissy .Sanchez the dog that we sent to Shih Tzu rescue was groomed the day off transfer, at that time they found that he was severly matted to the point where he has some bleeding, the next day he was neutered. He then met with a past adopter from 6 years ago and the person and past Shih Tzu that they had adopted got along well with him so it looks like he will be adopted by them! Yay for Sanchez!"

And this email from Thomas;

"The family that adopted Murphy are from Hawaii. She's a nurse at Stanford, (has a little girl and a cocker spaniel) here for a year and drove to Cupertino and back to get her other dog to make sure he got along with Murphy. [And] he did."

Chrissy got adopted by a single woman who [was] very nice and fell right in love with Chrissy

Louise got adopted by a single guy who just thought Louise was the coolest cat ever."

Yay for three great adoptions on Saturday!

Sanchez

This is Sanchez. Sanchez is a two year old Shih Tzi who's owner has terminal cancer. Valley Humane Society Volunteer Shoshannah Reed and her daughter Sophia made arrangements for Sanchez to be transferred into the care of Shih Tzi Rescue located in San Jose. Shoshannah picked up Sanchez at his old home and will be dropping him off with a Breed rescue Volunteer. If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting this furry little guy please contact them at 408-266-1221 408-266-1221 . Sanchez has very matted fur and these folks at Shih Tzi rescue will know just how to clean Sanchez up.

Hong Kong Dog Rescue

Hi all!
As most of you may know, I am in Hong Kong for the week and today I got to go to the Hong Kong Dog Rescue on the big island.
It was a long drive to it, but it was totally worth it.
I only have two pictures, and they're of the front of the building, which I'll upload when I get home.

Hong Kong Dog Rescue is a no-kill organization that houses dogs until they find homes.
All the dogs looked very healthy, and were very happy. It was a mostly outdoor facility but they are in the process of remodeling as we speak.

HKDR has 7 full time employees (their dog trainer is from San Francisco!), and about 150-200 dedicated volunteers who mainly take care of walking the dogs, but also have a big whiteboard they can write anything weird they notice about the dogs on. The dogs also have their own little forest-y area to run around and play.

The facility is split into two sides, one for the more playful dogs and one for the slightly "aggressive" dogs. But, the man I talked to says they rarely see this. During the day, all the dogs healthy enough to come out and play are allowed too. And there is a bathing schedule for everyone as well.

I'm sure you're wondering by now...how many dogs are there??
Well...there's 200! No joke!
They also have several smaller dogs in foster programs because they cannot handle the stress of the barking of the other dogs in the shelter.

If you'd like to learn more, the website is www.hongkongdogrescue.com or you can email me at vhs_animalcare_assistant@yahoo.com

I'm glad I got to learn about this organization, and I am so glad that these dogs will find their forever homes. Last week, they had 6 adoptions, and they are trying to up these numbers all the times.

Thanks!

Zach, Bo & Luke

Hi!

I got this great email from Natalie today, and I'd like to share it all with you!

"Zack went with a lady who lives on a farm :) She adopted a puppy from us last year too. Bo went with that young fellow that you [Myself] spoke with. He will be living in an apartment with this single young man and Luke will be joining them in a few weeks when he recovers from his illness. This fellow was absolutly thrilled to get these two kitties. He jsut melted at the site of them. It was super sweet!

I'm so happy!!

Patriot

Patriot was just adopted to a really nice guy. Patriot purred during the whole adoption :)
He will be living with a rowdy 1 year old cat as well, which I'm sure he'll be fine with!
Also, Bonnie and Clyde have arrived at the shelter! Wahoo!
